Privacy & Terms

What we keep, why, and the rules of the house.

This site is the companion platform of the book. It works without an account; an account adds a private workspace and a few public things you may choose to do. This page says, in plain words, what data that involves, what the voluntary research contribution is, and the terms under which the platform is offered. Effective 21 September 2026.

1 · Who is responsible

The data controller is Francesco Massara, author and publisher of From the Mind to the World and operator of fromthemindtotheworld.com. For anything in this page, including requests about your data, write to [email protected]. There is no data protection officer, because the size and nature of this activity do not require one.

2 · What data, and when

Reading the site without an account

Nothing is collected about you beyond what any web server needs to deliver a page. There are no analytics scripts, no advertising trackers and no third-party cookies. The site keeps its own anonymous counters (which page was viewed, from which site, whether the sign-in link was requested and opened): no IP address, no identifier, nothing that can be traced to a person. Ordinary technical records and the per-day usage counters that keep daily limits fair are kept briefly, for security and fair use only.

Creating an account

An account is created with your email address and, if you type it, your name. There is no password: you sign in with a link sent to your email. You may also tell us your role (reader, student, instructor, manager, researcher) and a class code, if an instructor gave you one; both are optional and you can change or remove them at any time in My Space. The engine keeps, under your email, the counters of your credits and study credits, the brand cards you have unlocked and the credits you have earned in the game.

Your saved work

What you save in My Space – brand assessments, Play configurations, Machine’s Mirror protocols, private notes – is stored under your account and is private: nobody else sees it, and it is not used for anything unless you opt into the research contribution described in section 8. You can delete any item at any time. Work saved before you had an account lives only in your browser and moves to your account the first time you sign in.

4 · Where the data goes

Your account and the work you save are stored with Supabase, the service that also handles the sign-in link, under a data processing agreement. The other providers that host the site and run the platform act only on our instructions and never receive your account data. Some providers may process data outside the European Union, under the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision. Your data is never sold, and never handed to anyone else except where the law requires it.

5 · How long we keep it

6 · Your rights

You can ask at any time to see the data we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to receive a copy in a portable format, to restrict or object to a processing, and to withdraw a consent you gave (this does not affect what was done before). Most of this you can do yourself in My Space: edit your profile, delete saved items, switch the research contribution off. For everything else, including deleting the account or removing a brick, a leaderboard entry or an idea, write to [email protected] from the address of your account; we answer within a month.

If you think your data is not handled as it should be, you can complain to the Italian supervisory authority, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali, or to the authority of the country where you live.

The platform is meant for adult readers and university students. If you are under fourteen, please do not create an account.

7 · Cookies and browser storage

The site sets no advertising or analytics cookies, and no cookie banner is needed. Your browser keeps a few things locally so that the site works: your sign-in session, work you save before having an account, the random identifier used for hearts on the Wall, your best time in the game, and small conveniences such as the last brand you looked at. All of it stays in your browser and can be cleared with its normal tools; clearing it signs you out and forgets local saves that were never moved to an account.

8 · The research contribution

The book argues that brands can be observed outside the mind. This platform is also a place where that observation happens, and the readings of many readers are, together, material for research. Contributing is optional, separate from everything else, and switched off by default.

If you switch it on in My Space, your saved assessments, Play configurations, Mirror protocols and notes, together with the bricks you lay on the Wall, may enter a research archive anonymized at the source: your email and name are removed and replaced by a random code that cannot be traced back to you, and your class code is kept only as a group label. The archive is used for academic research and teaching by the author and by researchers he works with, and results are published only in aggregate. Nothing in it is used commercially or shared with anyone for other purposes.

You can switch the contribution off at any time in My Space: from that moment nothing more of yours enters the archive. Data already anonymized cannot be identified and therefore cannot be pulled back out, which is also the guarantee that it cannot be used against you. The two things – private teaching data and voluntary scientific contribution – are kept distinct and never confused.

9 · Terms of use

The service

fromthemindtotheworld.com is the companion platform of From the Mind to the World and Dalla mente al mondo. It offers brand assessments produced on public evidence with the book’s rubric, an observatory of those assessments, a simulator, protocols for working with language models, a wall of readers’ sentences and an academic area. It is offered as it is, may change, and may be interrupted for maintenance or improvement; parts of it depend on third-party services we do not control.

Accounts and credits

One account per person, in your own name or nickname, with an email you can access. Study credits are given for free to readers, students and classes and have no monetary value; credits obtained from the author or, when payments open, purchased, are personal, cannot be transferred or refunded once used, and expire with the account. We may adjust daily limits to keep the platform sustainable.

What the assessments are

Every assessment is a dated snapshot produced on public sources with the book’s rubric, then archived and never edited. It is a reading meant for study, teaching and discussion, not a rating, an audit or advice of any kind, and it may contain errors: the sources are shown precisely so that you can check them, and reporting missing or wrong evidence is how the dataset improves. Brand names are trademarks of their owners; their presence here implies no affiliation, endorsement or judgement by them.

What you contribute

By submitting a brick, a leaderboard entry, a research idea, a result or a report you confirm that you have the right to do so and you grant the platform a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to publish it here, with the name you give where names are shown, for as long as the platform exists. We may moderate, edit for form or remove contributions that are off-topic, abusive, unlawful, promotional or that contain personal data of others. Bricks must be verbatim sentences of the book; the platform locates them in the text and refuses what it cannot find.

Fair use

Please do not scrape the site or the engine, run automated queries, share accounts, work around the daily limits, resell assessments or present them as your own. Quoting a score or a card is welcome, with the citation shown in the Academic area.

Liability and law

To the extent permitted by law, the author is not liable for decisions taken on the basis of the assessments or of any content of the platform, nor for interruptions of the service. These terms are governed by Italian law; disputes belong to the courts of Milan, without prejudice to the mandatory rights of consumers. We may update this page; the date at the top tells you when it last changed, and substantial changes are announced in My Space.
